Table of Absence

What gives human gathering its meaning? From this question emerged the table. In Moualla’s work, the table is not simply an object. It becomes a symbolic and existential structure: a place where human beings recognise one another’s presence. Around it coexist memory and mourning, intimacy and estrangement, love and betrayal, birth and death. It becomes the centre around which relationships, rituals and memories are organised.Yet as the enquiry deepens, even the table begins to disappear. It is reduced to a circle, a plate, a geometric sign, a pale field, until it approaches emptiness itself. Absence becomes the center. The void is no longer a lack, but a space charged with meaning. What has disappeared continues to exert its presence, and the viewer is invited to complete that emptiness through personal memory and experience. The image no longer delivers an answer; it becomes a way of thinking through the question.
