Talal Moualla

Born in Syria in 1952, Talal Moualla is an artist, critic and researcher whose practice has shaped contemporary Arab visual discourse for more than five decades. Since the 1970s, he has pursued artistic practice and critical writing as interconnected forms of enquiry, authoring and editing more than thirty books while contributing significantly to the cultural and institutional development of art in the Arab world, particularly in Sharjah and the United Arab Emirates. For more than five decades, Talal Moualla has approached the image not simply as representation, but as a form of thought. Moving between painting, criticism, poetry and research, his practice asks how the visible can carry an idea, shape consciousness, and open new ways of understanding human existence. The Table of Absence brings this lifelong enquiry to one of its most distilled forms.
