About this work
A gathering unfolds between presence and disappearance. Figures lean toward one another, cluster, exchange and observe, yet their identities remain deliberately unresolved. At the centre, the offering of flowers introduces a moment of tenderness within an otherwise elusive human scene.
Moualla treats the paper as both surface and body. Ink and mixed media build the figures, while burning and cutting physically remove parts of the work. These openings are not simply negative space; they allow the world behind the paper to enter the composition, making absence an active part of the image.
Fragile, scorched and suspended within the frame, the work becomes as much about what is missing as what remains—a meditation on human connection, memory and the traces we leave in one another.
