About this work
The figures emerge through absence as much as through line. Their bodies are partially burned away, reduced to silhouettes, traces and fragile contours that shift between presence and disappearance. Rather than describing the human form conventionally, Moualla allows the voids to become part of the figure itself.
Working with ink and mixed media on paper, the artist cuts and burns directly into the surface, transforming drawing into a physical, almost sculptural object. The irregular scorched edges, translucent passages and open areas expose the space behind the work, allowing light and shadow to continually redraw the composition. Suspended within the frame, the paper moves beyond the flat image into a dialogue between figure, material and void.
