About this work

The dervish is not simply turning; he is disappearing into the turn. Rendered in charcoal, the figure seems to emerge from darkness only to surrender itself again, the body dissolving into a sweep of light. The movement is expansive, almost weightless, while the surrounding blackness gives it gravity. There is something deeply spiritual in this tension: between presence and absence, stillness and motion, body and soul. The act of whirling becomes less a dance than a passage inward — a ritual of release, repetition, and transcendence. At its centre is a quiet paradox: the faster the body turns, the closer it comes to stillness.
