About this artwork
To read is to know yourself through the experiences gathered while travelling the world, mingling with cultures, absorbing them as a shared human heritage. This knowledge keeps you connected to your heart and your mind, and affirms that your being is universal.
The dervish lifts his scroll toward the sky as he turns, not merely reciting what is written, but becoming what he has read. Every journey, every encounter, every culture he has moved through is folded into his robe, spinning outward as wisdom offered freely to the world.
He does not read to accumulate. He reads to dissolve, into something larger, more human, more whole.
About the Artist
Badie Jahjah (b. 1973, Jableh, Syria) is a visual artist and graphic designer whose practice bridges spiritual philosophy and visual communication. He holds a BA in Fine Arts, Visual Communication and Advertising from Damascus University
and brings more than two decades of experience in branding and identity design, developing over 200 logos across public and private sectors
Deeply influenced by the mystical teachings of Shams al-Tabrizi and Jalal al-Din Rumi, Jahjah’s artistic research centers on dervish iconography, sacred letters, and symbolic systems as vehicles of spiritual inquiry. War marked a turning point in his practice, awakening what he describes as “the dervish within”
