About this artwork
The dervish raises his right hand toward the heavens, certain that God will grant him guidance to straighten his path, trusting that He will open the doors of his heart and mind so he may ascend as a human being.
With his left hand facing the earth, he scatters the seeds of his consciousness through his turning, for all the world to receive. Messages poured forth from love, truth, and beauty.
The upper hand gives. The lower hand gives also but differently. One receives from the divine and is elevated by it; the other returns that grace to the earth, transformed. The Prophet’s wisdom echoes in every revolution: to be the one who gives is to occupy the higher station, not in pride, but in responsibility. In generosity. In conscious, willing service to others.
To spin with open hands is to refuse to clutch. To refuse to clutch is to be truly free.
