About this work

Nizar Sabour distills the city into memory rather than architecture. Forms rise from the lower edge like fragments of towers, doorways, figures, or monuments, while the pale lavender field above them seems to hover between sky, dream, and recollection. The work resists a fixed reading. Small circles, flashes of yellow, turquoise, and red drift across the surface like signs, stars, ornaments, or traces of something once seen. The composition feels both intimate and distant, as though a familiar place has been recalled slowly, with certain details sharpened and others allowed to dissolve. Sabour’s language here is less about describing an Oriental scene than evoking its atmosphere: the density of lived history, the poetry of old forms, and the way place survives through fragments, symbols, and emotion. What emerges is a landscape suspended between the earthly and the imagined — quiet, enigmatic, and deeply rooted in memory.
