About this artwork
This work centers on the face as a site of quiet duality, where presence and concealment coexist. The translucent veil interrupts the gaze, softening one eye while leaving the other sharply visible—creating a subtle tension between clarity and obscurity.
The composition is direct and intimate, drawing the viewer into a psychological exchange rather than a narrative.
Chromatically, vivid reds and deep greens intensify the figure’s presence, while the softness of the veil diffuses this intensity, holding the image in balance.
Rather than revealing identity, the work suggests its fragmentation—where what is seen is only partial, and what remains hidden carries equal weight.
About the Artist
Salam Ahmad, trained in Fine Arts in Syria, works through painting as an intimate, emotional language. Her compositions emerge from quiet inner spaces, where feelings take form before they are spoken. The body dissolves into sensation, and color, especially grey, becomes a field of reflection, suspended between presence and absence, fullness and emptiness.
