From Ahmad Moualla’s newest body of work (2026), the human figure emerges as both structure and trace. A gathering of elongated bodies occupies the fragile surface, drawn together yet psychologically distinct, their gestures moving between intimacy, tension and quiet observation. The paper itself becomes part of Moualla’s language. Its irregular openings interrupt the figures and allow space to pass directly through the composition. Suspended within the frame, the work appears almost weightless; light travels through these voids and casts a second, shifting image in shadow behind it. Neither quite drawing nor object, the work exists somewhere between the two—where presence is defined as much by what remains as by what has disappeared.
