About this artwork
This work explores the figure in relation to object and identity, where the purse shifts from accessory to symbolic presence. Carried close to the body, it suggests both possession and burden—an extension of the self rather than an external element.
The composition is defined by bold color contrasts. A vivid red form anchors the image, while cooler tones and soft flesh hues create a dynamic tension between intensity and restraint.
The figure remains composed, almost serene, despite the visual weight of surrounding elements. Delicate transparency softens the body, allowing it to merge with the space and its symbolic objects.
Rather than depicting materiality, Purse reflects on what we carry—where objects become vessels of memory, identity, and unseen emotional weight.
About the Artist
Salam Ahmad, trained in Fine Arts in Syria, works through painting as an intimate, emotional language. Her compositions emerge from quiet inner spaces, where feelings take form before they are spoken. The body dissolves into sensation, and color, especially grey, becomes a field of reflection, suspended between presence and absence, fullness and emptiness.
