Goodness in people is fashioned when they are compelled; but evil, though buried deep, does not disappear. Most people are instruments moved by unseen hands played for a while by time, then broken and cast aside. So do not say: here stands the learned, the great; nor there, the dignified, the noble. For even the finest among men may move like herds, guided by the shepherd’s call and whoever refuses the path is left to vanish.
