Floating Flames 5

From Ahmad Moualla’s newest body of work (2026), this piece pushes drawing beyond the surface of paper and into space itself. Moualla’s familiar human figures gather, overlap and dissolve into one another, their bodies held somewhere between presence and disappearance. The paper is physically transformed, allowing absence to become part of the composition. Suspended within its frame, the work appears almost weightless, as though floating behind the glass. Light passes through its open forms, casting shifting shadows that extend the drawing onto the surface behind it. The result is a work that changes subtly with its surroundings: line becomes form, void becomes image, and shadow becomes a second, transient drawing.
