About this artwork
In “October Moon,” Shartouh composes a dreamlike scene where layered figures drift beneath a sky heavy with silence. The moon — strikingly painted in black rather than light, becomes a symbol of introspection, turning absence into presence and darkness into a quiet form of illumination.
Built through expressive abstraction and overlapping translucent forms, the work captures the feeling of an October night: reflective, moody, and beautifully unpredictable. Its monochrome palette and sculptural textures make it powerful statement in contemporary and minimalist interiors.
For collectors: A rare moon that glows by refusing to shine, subtle, poetic, unmistakably Shartouh.
About the Artist
Nawar Shartouh is a Syrian painter and printmaker based in Dubai. He graduated from the University of Damascus, where his foundation in printmaking shaped his precise, layered, and intentional approach to image-making.
Since establishing his studio in Dubai in 2021, his work has evolved within a contemporary curatorial context while retaining a quiet dialogue with Damascus, often guided by motifs such as jasmine and collective interior states expressed with tonal restraint.
He has presented his work in Cyprus and across the Middle East, including solo and group exhibitions in the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, and Syria.
